How to Steal a Galaxy by Beth Revis

Book two in the Chaotic Orbits series by Beth Revis picks up with Ada our main character in the aftermath of the previous book. She's working to repair her ship and figuring out her next steps. The folks she was working with before are looking for her to take another job in their crusade. The story twists and ends up taking you unexpected places - including plot points like a black tie event in a museum of old earth artifacts (like a telephone), a despicable billionaire who is verbally accosted, a terrorist plot and smooching.

My favorite thing about this series is how little you can actually trust what Ada says. There are layers to narrative that force you to look past what she's obviously doing and hiding her true motivations. Even the things the narrative tells you directly have layers and details that you have to read through. I haven't read a narrative this complex since Nona the Ninth.

The chemistry between the main characters is undeniable. I love how Revis builds the tension while the characters still don't fully trust each other.

Overall, I recommend this book for folks who love sci-fi future fiction, with high stakes spy style storytelling. I particularly loved the way Ada handled the megalomaniac capitalistic hellscape that earth had become. It was a cherry on top.
